Beer Talk - Round Two

Welcome back to the second edition of Beer talk! Where Beer is always top of mind! Well today is Groundhog’s day…. The day where we find out whether we get to enjoy six more weeks of beautiful snowflakes peacefully falling to the ground, while sipping on delicious winter brews from the comfort of our couch, or the lovely establishments around Iowa and Minnesota that serve us tasty meals paired perfectly with the brews that warm our soul…OR if we get to jump for joy at the thought of an early spring and day dream of the warm summer months returning and all that brings!

So was this little guy corralled back into his den after seeing his shadow, or did he walk boldly out of his confines!? Well, Phil the ground hog, once again saw his shadow and we shall enjoy six more weeks of winter! If you aren’t a huge fan of this adorable fuzz ball’s decision here are some delectable brews to sip on by the fire while you wait for spring.

First up, Rouge Hazelnut Brown Nectar. This brew’s name says it all, but in case you wanted more, expect a nutty twist from an original European Brown ale. Add some Rogue farm grown Revolution and Independent hops and their very own Rogue Farms Dare and Risk Malts and this beer evolves into a smooth and rich way to unwind after being smacked in the face with negative wind chills and gusty winter air.

Our second cold weather option comes from right here in Beautiful Iowa! Millstream Brewery’s, Back Road Oatmeal Stout, a 2011 Gold Medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival, is the perfect winter brew! The oats, black malt, and roasted barley are a flawless combination and create a smooth delectable full-bodied stout. This brew is also a great option to add to your favorite stew.

Finally, Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter! Vanilla Porter is a scrumptious beverage made from real vanilla beans from Madagascar, that combines Munich and caramel malts for balance and lots of flavor. This low IBU brew (international bitterness units) makes for an easy drinking and fully enjoyable beer. Just close your eyes and transport yourself to their home in Colorado. Imagine sitting by a fire after a fun day on the slopes, tasting all the flavors this one has to offer!
